Arlo Subscription Plans: Costs, Features, and What Works Without One

In the United States, Arlo's current plans start at $9.99 per month for one camera or $19.99 per month for unlimited cameras at one location. Smart Secure is listed at $29.99 per month and Ultra Secure at $49.99 per month. Annual billing has different total prices, shown below.

Choose around the recording or response function you need. A camera can still provide certain functions without a plan, while a paid event-history plan and continuous video recording are different purchases with different limits.

Current U.S. Arlo plan prices

The following prices were checked on October 28, 2026, against Arlo's U.S. plan comparison. They are listed subscription prices, not equipment, installation, taxes, or a guarantee of a particular account's checkout offer.

Plan Camera allowance at the covered location Monthly billing Annual billing total
Smart Aware, Single Camera One camera $9.99/month $95.88/year
Smart Aware, Unlimited Cameras Unlimited cameras $19.99/month $215.88/year
Smart Secure Unlimited cameras $29.99/month $299.98/year
Ultra Secure Unlimited cameras; separate continuous-recording limit $49.99/month $479.88/year

Annual billing is a yearly charge, not the same arrangement as paying a discounted amount each month. Compare the amount due now and the renewal terms in your account before subscribing.

Arlo announced subscription changes beginning September 15, 2026. Older reviews and screenshots may therefore use different plan names. Compare features and account eligibility instead of treating an old name as a complete description of today's offering.

Choose the tier around the job it must do

According to Arlo's current U.S. subscription overview, Smart Aware includes 60-day video history, activity zones, advanced detection, and Arlo Summary. It is the starting comparison when your main requirement is reviewing recorded events rather than adding a monitoring service.

Smart Secure adds response and monitoring features. Check the required equipment and setup for the specific service: buying the tier does not by itself install an Arlo Home Security System or complete authorization for a response feature.

Ultra Secure adds a continuous-recording allowance to the higher-tier offering. That matters if you need the quiet periods between detected events, but its “unlimited cameras” label does not mean unlimited cameras receive continuous recording.

Write a small requirement list before choosing. For example, you may need a saved parcel-delivery clip, another family member able to retrieve it, and a usable export. A different household may need a continuous driveway timeline. Those tasks should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both involve video history.

Avoid buying around an AI feature name alone. Check whether it applies to your camera, region, and configuration, and decide what action you expect after an alert. A notification and a professional monitoring response have different responsibilities.

Check the separate limits on continuous recording

Arlo's current plan terms describe Ultra Secure's 24/7 recording as 30 days of continuous video history for up to three cameras per paid subscription. It requires compatible cameras connected to AC power and sufficient internet bandwidth. Those continuous recordings cannot be downloaded under the published terms.

That differs from the 60-day event-history benefit. Do not expect every minute from every camera to remain retrievable for 60 days, or assume a battery-only installation acquires continuous recording simply because you upgraded the plan.

Before paying, confirm the exact camera models supported, the required power accessories, and the playback and export behavior for the type of footage you need. If exporting an uninterrupted incident is essential, resolve that requirement before choosing this recording arrangement.

What works without an Arlo subscription?

Arlo's trial-expiry guidance lists live streaming, push notifications, and two-way audio among the functions that remain without a paid plan. It also lists local recording and certain tracking functions with device-specific limitations.

The same guidance says the ordinary paid video-history and activity-zone features are unavailable without a plan or trial. Do not mistake access to a live camera for the ability to retrieve yesterday's event.

Local recording needs supported hardware and a configured storage arrangement. It is not created by canceling the subscription. Check the exact hub, camera, storage medium, and playback route. Our no-subscription camera guide explains why local storage and convenient remote playback are separate questions.

Test the permanent functions during the return period where practical. A trial can make a new camera appear to offer a recording experience that will not remain free. Check which timeline and storage location you are viewing before deciding you do not need a plan.

Compare billing, camera count, and addresses together

Arlo's U.S. comparison says separate protected addresses need separate plans. Unlimited camera coverage at one location should not be priced as a single subscription for several homes.

For two cameras at the same home, compare the current account offers for two single-camera arrangements and one unlimited-camera plan. Then consider whether another camera is likely, what annual commitment you want, and whether both options actually supply the needed functions. Do not select solely by dividing a headline price by today's camera count.

When changing or canceling, read the effective date, renewal information, and treatment of existing history. Export important downloadable event clips before relying on a cancellation or retention assumption. Keep the confirmation and verify which plan remains attached to the intended location.

Conclusion

Begin with the footage you must retrieve and the response you want, then check the camera, power, location, and billing conditions behind that benefit. Smart Aware can be a sufficient comparison for event history; a need for continuous video or monitoring deserves a separate compatibility and service check before paying more.
